Meth Screening for Rental Houses
Meth use is increasing at an alarming rate in Australia and is putting families and properties at risk to exposure to these dangerous chemicals.
Landlords can potentially have their home devalued or potentially marked as not habitable, therefore losing rental income! This can be prevented with regular screenings between tenancies with any meth chemicals being detected early making for an easier and cost-effective solution.
The tests are Meth rapid testing or meth field testing. This test gives a positive or a negative result. Then if we get a positive result, we can then send the collection sample off to the laboratory for a NATA verified legal test and verify the level of contamination. These samples are collected in strict accordance with NIOSH 9111. This is the only way to provide proof that the house is habitable. The samples will then be sent to a NATA approved lab with a ‘Chain of Custody’ form. Contamination count is then recorded, if the count is under .5mu per 10cm2 then this is a pass level, however, if it is over, we then look at cleaning and/or remediation. If the level is really high, then all the gyprock is removed from the house, and the insulation until the result is below the legal requirement for tenancy.
Meth contamination is both odourless and naked to the human eye but can cause you serious side effects, symptoms that may occur are breathing problems, skin irritation, red eyes, behavioral problems and issues sleeping just to name a few.
